We all dream of shifting weight quickly. Of being able to slim down for a weekend break, wedding or work party in a couple of weeks. However, such an outlook can often make your diet difficult to achieve before it has had a chance to work.

Why do dieting regimes collapse?

There are many different reasons why your weight loss plan may fail, but the key ones include:

Limited Diets

Fad diets (otherwise acknowledged as “crash/celebrity diets” are well known for eliminating whole nutrition groups in an attempt to help you excess lbs. However, such meals are impossible to maintain for months at a time. Not only are they bad for your well-being, but they are impossible to get used to. After all, could you experience satisfaction eating just cabbage soup or proteins, day after day for weeks at a time? No.

Temptation

We have all got fad meals which we can’t refuse. Chocolate bars, cakes, biscuits, pizza‚. Now whilst allowing yourself the odd treat is not a crime. Turn this monthly treat into daily treat and you will soon notice that you have caved to additional temptations as well which will trigger weight gain, not weight loss.

Skipping Meals

It may appear to make sense when you are losing weight to miss a meal as you are essentially eating fewer calories; yet without a consistent ingestion of calories into your body, your metabolism will gradually start to slow down as it believes you are starving.

And this can make slimming down incredibly complicated as your metabolic rate will be too slow to cope with fat burn.

What should I do?

If any of the above sounds like you, don’t let this dishearten your attempts to lose weight. To witness natural, permanent fat loss all you need to do is alter your beliefs and accept that your fat loss ambitions will not be instant.

A regular fat loss of 4-8lbs a month is advised by many leading experts as these are easier to keep off. But what else should you do?

Consume a healthy diet – you don’t have to cut out your favourite foods completely to benefit from successful weight loss. The key is to eat a balanced meal plan of all the main nutrition groups and reduce the number of fatty foods you eat.

Now we are not telling you to exclude chocolate or chips – all this will cause is temptation. However, by steadily reducing how regularly you have them, week by week, you can naturally cut them from your diet and stop cravings.

Exercise often eating well and exercising regularly go together when it comes to dieting. By incorporating a fitness system of cardio and strength training 2-3 times per week for up to 30 minutes, you can enhance your metabolism and more importantly your fat burn.

Create small targets instead of aiming for a complete weight loss of 20lbs, give yourself minute weekly goals of 2lbs and aim to attain just those. This helps to alleviate the pressure to shift excess lbs and soon you will discover that you are close to your long term target.
