Ever notice how people who don’t exercise still look full in their chest and arms and legs? And that this is mostly people under 30? And have you noticed as well that it’s not long before this look of fullness begins to fade away and bring on a droopy look? Well, it’s because our bodies are peaking between age 25 and age 30. After you pass these points, the body begins to slowly decline and weight gets added much easier, and much faster than in those twilight years.

The reason is, partly, that past age 30 we start to lose muscle due to atrophy. This is brought on from no longer using the muscles like we did when we were younger. Young people engage is much more activities that demand muscles than those who are getting on in age. Muscles are active tissue, and will burn calories. Once we begin to lose muscle due to atrophy, we have a metabolism ‘slow-down’ that results and leads to the storage of more fat and gaining weight. 50% of this is all caused by inactivity. So do you have some power you can exercise over this? Absolutely yes!

We’ve all seen this scenario. Two women are at the bus stop, one in her thirties, the other in her fifties. The one in her fifties looks much more vigorous and firm than the younger one, and we wonder, what makes that difference. If you answer yourself by saying ‘exercise’, then you hit the bulls-eye. Exercise is the secret to looking young.

If you want a good exercise program, then make sure it consists of both aerobic and some resistance exercises. Include stretching as well. A lot of people prefer aerobics done separately and apart from resistance exercise, but the smart ones realize that they work very well together. Circuit training is how you utilize all your exercises together. It’s effective, and saves you time. It combines the stretching, the aerobics, and the resistance training to make one dynamic form of exercising.

Resistance exercises build and maintain muscle. Muscle is classified as ‘active tissue’. You will burn more calories than you did during workout, even while you’re resting. A pound of fat will burn about four calories each day, as a pound of muscle will burn about fifty calories each day. Once you’re past age 30, then an inactive person is going to lose about one half pound to one pound of muscle each and every year. This means every ten years of muscle loss caused by inactivity will equate to having a slower metabolism and burning about 450 less calories each day.

If you desire to lost some fat and gain some muscle tone, then include some exercise in your daily activities. This means adding in some resistance training. Those who add resistance training t their routines average losing about 45% more fat over those who don’t. It also helps to offset the aging affects that we try to escape. Even those who are in their 80′s and 90′s see the difference if they exercise. They see improvements up to 200%.

You can keep fit and stay trim after 40, but let this message be clear, you want to do resistance exercises. This will be a must-do for anyone wanting to keep in shape and feel young and vibrant after 40. You can do it, just make up your mind, and get busy.
