Trying to keep fit is a difficult task when you sit at a desk each and every day working eight to ten hours or more live days a week. Unlike people who get to move around on their job, you sit in one place for hours at a time. This type of behavior burns few calories and has a tendency to make your body remain inactive. It’s important to incorporate a workout at your desk to keep fit and increase your longevity.
Too often, the phrase “30 minutes of exercise a day” becomes a deterrent for those individuals who cannot find 30 minutes of uninterrupted time to exercise. Instead of doing even just 10 minutes of exercise, they do nothing.
Unfortunately, this lack of motivation makes them gain weight and become less limber. If you want to lose weight, it’s important to fit in a workout at your desk to get fit and shed unwanted pounds of fat. The importance of moving around even if it is just for 10 minutes should not be so readily dismissed. Try it and you will discover that moving around can make you feel more energetic while slowly slimming down your body size.
What can you do for a desk workout that doesn’t take much time, but still gets your body moving? First, you need to start by getting up out of that chair. Next, try any variety of the following ideas each day during your break time to get your body in motion.
- Run in place for a minute at a time;
- Pick up a pair of hand weights and tap out a few repetitions in sets of 10;
- Do standing pushups using your desk to support yourself;
- Lift yourself up from your desk chair using the chair arms for support, do several repetitions of 10;
- Take to the stairs, even if you have nowhere to go. Jog down or up a couple of flights and back to your desk. Take it slow if you are physically out of shape and start by simply walking up and down the stairs.
Switch your routine up to keep it enjoyable and motivational. These ideas are just to get you started. Once you get into the swing of things, you will discover new ideas for your workout at your desk.
