One very good description of most of us is that we can rightfully be called procrastinators. We keep delaying and putting things off as long as we can, and this is especially true if the topic has anything to do with a change of lifestyle. Exercise is one of these topics.

We are a nation that joins health clubs, buys expensive workout equipment, and than drives all over the parking lot to find that close spot that won’t cause us to walk too far. That’s funny! You know it’s true, and you’ve probably done it yourself.

But one thing that actually works in the area of fitness, is having a good personal fitness trainer. They can be found in most any gym. One good way to find them is to call a cardiologist. There are lots of very qualified and skilled people that are associated with cardiologists. Cardiology, by the way, deals with your heart, and you may end up needing one if you don’t deal with your eating habits.

Fitness trainers can create you a great exercise plan and help you to monitor your progress. It really makes a difference when you have someone holding you accountable. This really increases your chances for success, and talking about success, we need to practice what we’re preaching to the rest of our family about healthy lifestyle choices.

Here are a couple of ideas for getting back in shape:

- Prepare meals that are healthy. Stop pulling into the burger joints and taco places, and saying that’s dinner. Eating the wrong thins is the main malfunction of our diets.

- Identify and explain healthy foods without being a ‘nag’ about it. It’s all about making better choices when it comes to what we eat.

- Whenever you can walk to get something done, then do it. Don’t drive your car four or five blocks to do an errand, if you have the chance to walk. Walking is great exercise, and every little bit adds up.

- Never consider food to be a reward for anything. If food turns out to be the main part of some sort of outing, like popcorn at a local theater, then change that behavior. There are actually healthy snacks around if you look. Families need to avoid the candy and the popcorn saturated in oil, and steer toward more healthy snacks. If they do partake in these, then it should be minimized, only smaller portions. Take some carrots with you to snack on. Do you know that carrots have become one of the favorite snacks among kids today?

Having your own personal fitness trainer will take you a long way, and they can really help out with ideas like these I’ve mentioned here. Do a thorough interviewing of your personal trainer, to make sure they’re going to be the kind of trainer to see that progress gets made, so you can turn little lifestyle changes into big differences in your life.
